- CHOOSING YOUR FABRIC The background is left unstitched, so your fabric colour becomes part of the design and sits directly against every motif. Two small details are drawn by the fabric itself rather than by thread: each polar bear's eye, and the centre of the small cream diamonds. Whatever fabric you choose becomes those dots, so it needs to read clearly against the cream.
- Please avoid white, ivory and cream. The polar bears are stitched entirely in 712 Cream, a pale warm off-white, so on a white or cream ground the bears lose their outline, and their eyes, which are unstitched fabric, disappear with them.
- The three grounds in the photographs all work: deep navy, pale blue-lilac, and natural tan linen.
- A note on the pale blue-lilac: the floss list already contains 3325 Baby Blue Light and 334 Baby Blue Medium, so on that ground the blue snowflakes and bird wings sit deliberately soft and the piece is carried by the cream bears and the rust moose. On navy and on tan they read at full contrast instead.
- 3772 Desert Sand Very Dark is the darkest thread in the chart, the moose bodies and the bears' blankets. Within DMC's desert sand range (3774 / 950 / 3064 / 407 / 3772 / 632) it sits second from the bottom, above only 632 Desert Sand Ultra Very Dark, so it is a mid-dark rust rather than a true dark, and the navy photograph shows it holding up well. We have not stitched this design on black or charcoal, so those are untested.
- STITCHING IT AS NEEDLEPOINT The chart works on canvas as well as on Aida, one symbol is one stitch, worked as a tent stitch instead of a cross, with the same count and the same colour key. The background is charted unstitched, so it is yours to decide: leave the canvas showing between the motifs, or fill it in with a background colour of your choice.

Nothing ships. After Etsy confirms payment, sign in at Etsy.com in a mobile or desktop browser, open Your account, choose Purchases, then choose Download Files beside this order. Etsy’s app does not show the download action.

This pattern is for personal use. You can stitch it for yourself and stitch it as a gift. Please do not resell, share, copy or redistribute the files, sell the chart as your own, or use it for mass production. The design and the chart stay the property of Stitch Jam Studio.
