This gnome cross stitch pattern PDF is a small piece of forest folklore: a bearded gnome riding a big black cat like a mount, lantern lit and satchel packed, off through the moss. The cat wears a gold crescent-moon collar and moves at its own pace. Red-capped mushrooms, ferns and a few grey stones mark the path. The palette is deep forest greens, copper red, warm browns and old gold, so the whole scene reads like an old woodland tale rather than anything spooky.

🪢 RECOMMENDED FABRIC Stitch it on a warm neutral - tan, natural linen shade or oatmeal Aida - which is what every photo here shows. The background is left unstitched, so the fabric colour is part of the finished picture.
Two colours to avoid. Skip pure white, ivory and ecru: the gnome's beard and the mushroom cap spots are stitched in DMC ECRU and would disappear into the cloth. Skip black, navy and dark green too: the cat is carried by DMC 310 Black, 934 Black Avocado Green and 730 Olive Green Very Dark, and it loses its shape against a dark ground.
