- FABRIC The background is left unstitched, so the fabric colour is part of the finished piece. Recommended: black or charcoal Aida, both are shown in the photos and every colour in the palette stands clear against them. Navy is shown too and works well, with one thing to know: DMC 939 Navy Blue Very Dark carries the satchel and sits closest to a navy ground, so that element reads softer there. Please avoid white, cream and ivory: the goose is stitched in DMC 3823 Yellow Ultra Pale and 644 Beige-Grey Medium, and on a pale fabric the largest shape in the design loses its edges.
